No. This isn't the cover of Elle decor magazine but it should be! :)  I have to say I am pretty proud of the results here.  My client was asking for a six piece outdoor table and I proposed several solutions. A durable and classy, wrought iron set was selected, fabric chosen and within a few weeks we had a gorgeous table for her patio.  It was delivered just in time for her birthday fiesta and enjoyed by all.

Imagine my excitement when I discovered this site. I drooled at the possibilities as I explored it for hours. I'm talking about Spoonflower, a new site that allows you to pick fabrics from a slew of talented artists or upload and print your own. They sell it by yard and in a variety of fabric weights. Best of all......THEY HAVE INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING!
I will be sure to offer this option to my clients in the future.  I am sure this will open up a world of possibilities. In the meantime, I will be ordering their free fabric sample book.

Storage Solution 08/29/2011

Merida homes are infamous for having zero closet and storage space but this one was a double whammie with little to no closet space and a small living area. The solution was to revamp an existing sofa with roll out drawers.   This resulted in a whole new look for the piece while proving lots of room for clothes and extra bedding.  Now how clever am I?!!! :)

The lack of activity on this page would seem to indicate that I opened up my doors for business and then all we heard were crickets. Oh! but that couldn't be further from the truth. I am eternally grateful to my supportive friends and fans out there. Thanks to them, I am as busy as can be and I'm enjoying every second of it.

There are several projects in the pipeline and you should be seeing lots of 'Diva Delivery of the Day' posts on our blog and facebook page in the weeks to come.  At this very moment, I am having a blast selecting fabrics for a set of 6 foot settees. I'll be heading out first thing tomorrow morning armed with my plan in hand to buy the right amount of each fabric and then deliver it to my trusty carpenter.

I've also already purchased fabric for another set of sofas I acquired at a second hand store for a client.  I will be delivering those tomorrow as well, along with paint swatches.  The set will be repainted and recovered to create a whole new look.  The results should be one of those before and after pictures you just cant believe. I am so excited to see that one finished!

I've also got several new cushion recoverings in the works, a set of chair reupholstery and two faux finished furniture pieces to do. That is just whats right on top of my head. I have to create lists and use lots of sticky notes these days. I'm not kidding....I am soooo on a roll! Stay tuned for upcoming deliveries on our blog!....AND a big THANK YOU to everyone out there spreading the word about my service. :)

Life has a funny way of coming full circle. It turns out that my love for making beautiful things is something I just can't get away from. With a degree in fashion design and over a decade experience in product development and design in the fashion accessories segment, I certainly have the background for it.  I left the US in need of a change. A change in gears. A change of scenery to perhaps get reinspired?

This lead me to my current home in Merida where I have reinvented myself as a tourism maven leading cultural tours for women under the name of MexicaChica Getaways. I absolutely love what I do but found myself taking on any opportunity to stay creative.  One of my first design projects here was creating an inexpensive but beautiful and functional sofa set that would serve as a seating space for my tour guests at a home I was renting for both myself and my business.

The results were spectacular! My sofa set turned out to be a fun and inexpensive project that drew many compliments from guests and friends alike.  In the process, I made an excellent connection with a reliable and talented carpenter in town. This opened the (business) doors to other side projects for friends in need of something unique and affordable. And so the name Merida Decor Diva and this website was born.  My website and blog catalogs my latest projects and additions to my services.

My handy rolodex full of wrought iron workers, carpenters, upholsterers, seamstresses and more, combined with my innate design abilities and fluent Spanish, make your home decor dreams come true! I am proud to announce that I am officially open for business.
